Building my Battle Frontier Team (Dusclops): Pokemon Emerald
The newest member in my team to take on the Battle Frontier!
I have finally finished training my second Pokemon for my Battle Frontier team! If you haven’t read the first article where I trained Aggron, you might want to check that out first.
I decided to add Dusclops to my Battle Frontier team because this Pokemon is awesome and underrated. Ever since the Pokemon movie “Jirachi Wish Maker”, Dusclops has been a Pokemon I have admired for a mysterious reason. Dusclops does have benefits to being on a Battle Frontier team. Its defensive stats are quite high which makes for a beefy wall. It can also learn annoying and stall type moves such as toxic, will-o'-the-wisp, and rest.

The ideal Dusclops I sought after was one with perfect IVs in HP, Defense, and Special Defense with a nature that increases a defensive stat. When I started the IV breeding process, I realized I did not have any Dittos with the natures I needed. I decided to capture Abras to help with this process. Abra has the ability “Synchronize” which makes it so any encountered pokemon has a higher chance of appearing with the nature of the Abra. I was fortunate enough to capture an Abra with a nature I needed on the first try! I then went to Fallarbor Town to capture more Dittos.
Even though I caught this Abra, I did not actually end up using any of the Dittos with the ideal nature to breed the first set of Duskulls. This was because I was having trouble finding a Dittos with the nature and a perfect IV in the desired stats. After many hours of grinding, I eventually hatched a few good Duskulls with a perfect stat however those did not have the natures I needed. After a lot more grinding, I got incredibly lucky and hatched a female Duskull with calm nature with 2 perfect IVs I was targeting. This was a signifigant moment since now I could put the Everstone on this Duskull and have some control over which natures the babies will have. This feature only works with female Pokemon holding the Everstone. After about 8-12 eggs, a perfect Duskull popped out with perfect IVs in the 3 stats I desired, AND with the nature. I then transferred this Duskull to Fire Red and began the EV training process.
I EV trained Duskull to have 252 EVs in HP, which is the maximum a Pokemon can have, and I divided the remaining 252 in half for defense and special defense. Those stats each had 128 EVs. Another way to EV train this Pokemon is to max out the defense and special defense stat, however then the HP stat is lacking. From my understanding, the HP stat is too critical to not put points into.
After completing the EV training, I went on over to Seven Island to do the EXP training. I am still hunting for a shiny Larvitar, so I wanted to get more encounters.

Dusclops naturally learns 3 of the 4 moves I needed. The only move it does not learn is “Rest”. Fortunately I had 1 TM in my Fire Red bag so I applied it to Dusclops. After that I transferred it to Pokemon Emerald and went to the Name Rater to give back Dusclops its proper name.
And that marks the end of this month long grind! I believe there is only 1 more Pokemon I need to train and then I can start challenging the Battle Frontier!
