I am still on a quest to get ALL the gold medals in the Pokemon Emerald Battle Frontier. However being realistic, I would just like to have one at this point! Right now I am focusing on the Battle Tower since it reminds me most of how a Pokemon Battle would take place. Actually, the Battle Dome reminds me of it too! However the team I built was designed mostly for the Tower. Maybe I should try out the Dome again since the Tower is proving to be challenging!
The team has been consistent the last week or so in the Battle Tower. We have been able to get to rounds 25-35 over 5 times which isn’t that high, but it’s a start. I am still learning the team’s strengths and weaknesses. Be sure to check out the video if you haven’t already!
There was one RUTHLESS match that really showed how unforgiving the Battle Frontier is. There was a disgusting Whiscash that had some higher power supporting it. My typical lead for the Tower is Steelix which is excellent as a tank. It resists many types and is really only weak to Water and Fire. Also, having the ability Sturdy prevents the opponent from using 1-hit KO moves.
I sent out Steelix and the opponent sent out Whiscash. Knowing that Whiscash has a high probability of having a water move, I opened up with Protect to scout for information. The CASH used Surf which is concerning for Steelix. I decided to swap out of Steelix and into Dusclops since water moves do too much damage. Dusclops has been the main way the team handles water pokemon and it has been shown to be effective. I swapped into Dusclops and then Wishcash used FISSURE and it hit… So down the Clops went. Dusclops didn’t even have a chance to prove its worth.
I was mortified because now how am I supposed to handle this sea creature with Dusclops dead? I dont even know what the other Pokemon on the opponent’s team are!
I then sent out Steelix knowing I was in a bad spot. I could not send out Tyranitar yet since it was too risky. I now needed to set up Tyranitar more than ever since Dusclops was dead. I started to Mud Slap the Cash in hopes of getting lucky making its moves miss. Whiscash used Fissure again which worked in my favor. Steelix’s ability prevents that move from hitting. Cycling between Mudslap and Protect proved effective in wearing down Whiscash’s PP and lower its accuracy. Steelix was able to use a total of FOUR Mud Slaps which lowered Whiscash’s accuracy immensely. Steelix eventually fainted to Surfs and then Tyranitar was sent out. The only way I was going to win this match is if Tyranitar was able to set up multiple Dragon Dances. So we started dancing.
Whiscash then used Fissure again, and it HIT! I was SHOOK. The odds of that hitting was low but regardless, it hit. One of the most powerful Whiscash I have ever seen in my life. I hope no trainer has to face this leviathan.
Sometimes the battle frontier just be like that…
Anyway, the Battle Frontier continues to be quite a challenge, however that is why it is enjoyable and rewarding. Hope you all are enjoying your Pokemon adventures!
Great read as always. Made me chuckle :-)
That's one incredibly "lucky" Whiscash.
